Popol Vuh Refelction
While reading Popol Vuh I was amazed at the similarities between the story of creation happening in it and the stories I was told as a child in a Christian setting. One of the interesting differences that stood out in Chapter two was how the Creator and the Maker treated the animals after figuring out that they could not worship them. "It is impossible for them to say our names, the names of us, their Creators and Makers. This is not well".(pg 4) This interesting to me because I would question whether the Creator and the Maker are worthy of praise if they could not create things that are able to do the praising. Also interesting parallel to the Christian story was the attempt to make man out of mud, and the failure that happened. This does not seem to be a failure in the Christian story. I find it very interesting that it took many attempts and failures to make the perfect humans for the Creator and the Maker. I feel that in Christianity, though there was only one attempt to make mankind, the entire scripture is a quest to make mankind perfect. Being the Christian that I am, it was the likeness in the creation stories that really stuck out to me, and I am happy that I am able to get more perspectives on this.
